2019 Favourites | Skin Care & Makeup

Tuesday, 10 December 2019 Bath, UK

My 'Beauty' tab on my homepage was looking a tad empty so I thought I would rectify that by sharing some of my beauty favourites from this year. They are not new releases but some products that I have either discovered this year, or loved all year long!

Skin Care

First up, Pixi Glow Tonic. An exfoliating toner that aids the removal of dead skin to help your skin... well.. glow! For any age and any skin type, I have found that using this daily has kept my face looking clearer and less dull and tired. When I first got this product I was using it both in the morning and evening which did dry out my skin very slightly, so I switched to just evening and now it works a treat. (Cruelty Free)

Secondly, a new discovery for me - The Body Shop's Drops of Youth Liquid Peel. OH MY GOODNESS. This is such a satisfying product to use. You can literally see the dead skin it is stripping away and honestly, my skin has never felt so dewy and fresh. I love this product. Definitely not the cheapest, but my oh my it works wonders! (Cruelty Free)

This one tears my heart a wee bit as La Roche Posay are NOT cruelty free and therefore, even though I LOVE this product, I will not be repurchasing as since October 2019 I have pledged to only buy cruelty free products. SO SAD. But as it has been a staple almost all throughout the year I had to mention La Roche Posay's Effclar Duo with SPF 30+. I have been wearing this daily under my makeup, not only for the SPF protection (so important, kids) but also because it mattifies my skin without feeling cloggy (if that's a word!) If anyone has any recommendations for a cruelty free alternative to this PLEASE let me know!

Lastly for the skin care... Lush's Sleepy. Oh. Yes. Heaven. In a tub. Lavender scented and beautifully moisturising this feels like such a treat to slather all over my body before I hop into bed. At the end of the day, it is just a moisturiser, but maaaan it's just lush. (Cruelty Free)

Make Up

After my SPF has sunken in the next thing I slap on my face is Laura Mercier's Foundation Primer. Albeit not everyday, but just on those days when I really need my makeup to last. I bought this product for my wedding day back in 2018 and it has been a staple in my makeup bag every since. I feel like my skin is protected from the wind and rain, but also this holds my foundation like glue. I love it. (I am unclear as to whether Laura Mercier are a cruelty free brand. According to their website they don't test on animals, and their products are not sold in mainland China, however they are not certified as cruelty free.)

Finally...

Rimmel London's Lasting Radiance Foundation (previously Wake Me Up) has been my GO TO drugstore foundation since it came out years ago. I absolutely love it and find it reliable and cheap and cheerful. I apply it with my Real Techniques Buffing Brush for an even coverage that lasts all day. Yep. Love it. (Again, unsure as to Rimmel's status on being cruelty free. Their parent company Coty do not test on animals within the UK - however they do sell in Mainland China)

And that's it! I can't believe 2019 is over. Hope it's been an amazing year for you, and that next year is even greater!
